Well, sometimes things go as expected … and sometimes they don’t! At all! Our 2025 SPFL Final Four saw one mammoth upset, and in rip roaring fashion I might add, and another was a heavyweight battle until late Monday night.

This will be an abbreviated blog post since it’s Christmas Eve and I need to finish my shopping (kidding), but probably no one wants to really read this today, except maybe the Greased Lightning management team which has been dreaming of this opportunity for quite some time.

In the upset of the weekend, the aforementioned Lightning absolutely opened a can of WA to claim an easy 150 -82 victory over season long stalwart, Yesterday’s Corn. Puka Nacua’s amazing 48 point outing set the stage and a balanced remainder of the lineup, led by Chimere Dike (27) brought it home. Raise your hand if you had an SPFL Super Bowl participant starting Jacoby Brissett at QB and Dike leading the receiver corps. Yeah, me neither. Kudos to those waiver wire pickups. The Corn were undone by Josh Allen (7) and his injured leg, and Quinshon Judkins (10) and his dislocated, discombobulated leg. JaMarr Chase (19) and Kyren Williams (13) did their best to pick up the slack. Congrats to the Corn for a great … regular season!

In the real nail biter of the weekend, the Thunder Monkeys came out on top over Higgins and the Ladds, 186-170, in a classic semifinal matchup. All season long, the Ladds’ GM has told ye old commish that the Monkeys were the team to beat and I didn’t buy it. But I do now. Chris Olave (36), Brock Purdy (32), and Kenneth Gainwell (31) all led the way, covering for Trey McBride’s rare stinker of a game (7). Congrats to the Ladds on a great season and finding their groove in the SPFL again.

So … in the SPFL Super Bowl, we have Greased Lightning going for their first ever Farley Trophy against the Thunder Monkeys. Early Vegas odds show the Monkeys as ten point favorites, but who knows at this stage of the NFL season. In the Consolation Bowl, the Ladds (-23 point favorites) look for redemption and a bronze medal against Yesterday’s Corn.
Best of luck to everyone still playing and enjoy it! It sucks to not be scouring the waiver wires TBH. I’m already ready for next season!!!

Merry Christmas to each of you. The holidays can also be tough for folks for different reasons, including ye old commish, but remember Genesis 1:16. “And God made two great lights — the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night…”
God knew there would be darkness in all our lives, and he planned for it, by providing light for all times. Those lights at night may not make things bright, but they make things visible enough for us to keep going. Because there’s good things for us to find … even in the darkness! Merry Christmas!!
The Commish

You can always rely on me looking forward to the weekly Blog. As always, I appreciate the effort you put forth as Commish in the league. Merry Christmas to everyone!
