An SPFL Focused Blog

If you’re reading this you can see that I’ve finally stepped off that cliff. I’ve finally reached for the brass ring. I’ve finally taken on more than I can handle. I have started a blog.

Actually, my goal is to not let this take up any more time than I used to devote to our old school SPFL page on the My Fantasy League server. You’ll quickly realize that, if you explore this page and find that, well, there’s just not else much to it. (Note that I do have a tab showing our league history of champions. For posterity’s sake, you know.)

I did get a lot of feedback after last season that while the Yahoo league page was fun, modern, and easy to use, many people missed my nonsense weekly recaps. And despite my pleas to the Yahoo management, an option to integrate a weekly commissioner’s article never materialized. So, never wanting to disappoint my constituents/loyal league of owners, I opted to start this blog.

This website is where you will find my weekly recap articles. (And that’s really it, as far as I know). I don’t know how lengthy they will be, or how fancy they’ll be, but I’m hoping they can at least echo our past years of glory on the MFL site. If you have no interest in reading my ramblings or if the mere thought of going back to that makes your skin crawl, you do not ever have to darken this page on the Internet. All league business, lineups, trades, etc., will continue to happen on our league homepage. But if you want to read about me poking fun at myself, you all, or the something in the world, this is where you’ll find it.

The 2022 Season Approaches

As for the nuts and bolts, nitty gritty details of the actual 2022 SPFL season, here they are:

  • Keeper League Transition: This is the real headline of the preseason. If you go to our league homepage and download the league constitution and bylaws, you can find all of the important details and the motivation behind this move and its rules. But here it is in a nutshell … AFTER this season, the SPFL will become a keeper league. Meaning that you can choose to keep up to two of your players on this year’s team … for next year. With the following caveats:
    • You cannot keep free agents.
    • You cannot keep first round draft picks.
    • You can keep players you trade for … IF they were drafted.
    • It will cost you a draft pick to keep said player(s), at a price of whatever round they were drafted in MINUS one round. For example, keeping a 4th round draft pick? You won’t have a third round draft pick in next year’s draft.
    • You can keep players for a maximum of three years (the year drafted plus two keeper years).
  • Draft Date/Time: Our league draft will be on Sunday, August 28th at 2:00pm eastern standard time (it will show as 11am on the Yahoo page because they are in the Pacific Time Zone). It will be live and it will be quick.
  • Scoring/Lineups/Transactions: While the scoring system will be the same as last year, I did notice that our constitution and bylaws had not been updated to reflect the Yahoo system last year. My apologies for that. It has been corrected. The lineups and rosters remain the same. No restrictions or limits. Transaction limit has been raised to 50 per year. Crazy, I know, but it’s so much more fun on Yahoo.
  • Dues/Prizes: Same as last year, $50 per team. $400 to champs; $150 to runners up; and $50 to third place.
