While this is probably the most boring blog post I have every year, it is the one that is most exciting, at least to me. The dawn of the 2024 SPFL is approaching!

As it is apt to do, life has kept on flowing by since we last visited. I’ve loved. I’ve lost. I’ve lamented. I’ve grown — wiser, wider, and grayer. And that’s all just in my pathetic calling as a Dallas Cowboys fan this off season. In contrast to last year, when I was very uncharacteristically optimistic about my Super Bowl dreams in Big D, I’m back in the saddle of pessimism this year. In fact, I would say that I’m more pessimistic than I’ve been since the days of Quincy Carter, QB. I fully expect a four alarm dumpster fire as a Cowboys fan this year.

But as an SPFL Commissioner??? I couldn’t be more excited. Can we all just agree that we need to dive in head first to the warm, comfortable confines of distraction that football, the NFL, and the SPFL offer us? Do I hear an amen?

So … I won’t take up too much of your time today, other than the usual season kickoff requests:

1. PLEASE let me know ASAP if you are not going to participate in our fun this season, so that we can recruit a replacement. I don’t want to replace anyone but … well, you know, I can. If I have to.
2. Mark your calendars for the draft — Sunday, August 25th, at 2:00pm eastern (it will show as 11am on the Yahoo site because they are on Pacific time).
3. Our Yahoo league website for 2024 is now active. Please make sure you can access it, well in advance of draft day!
4. Examine the keepers list below, both for accuracy and to let me know who (if any) you want to keep. Again, please let me know via text or email who you want to keep. You can select to “keep” them on the Yahoo website, but I have to go in and make adjustments for the draft, so don’t make me go searching for your selections. Just let me know who you want and I can take care of the rest. I spy a couple of real bargains in the league this year! None in Mayberry, unfortunately. 
   • In a nutshell, you can keep TWO players maximum. The draft cost is next to their name and if it shows “YES” in the column next to that, this is the last year you will be able to keep them. It would be great if you could let me know your selections by Saturday, August 17th.
5. Feel free to send your league dues at your convenience. Unlike the rest of the economy, inflation hasn’t affected us yet, it’s still just $50 per team. But I do need you to pay! Cough, cough.
