It seems like it’s been years since the Super Bowl, but here we are, on the precipice of another SPFL Battle Royale. A quick recap on this year’s draft — Greased Lightning (Wesley) had the highest rated draft performance and The Ghost of Megatron (Demurris) had the lowest rated draft performance. In other words, same thing, different year. It’s like wondering if the sun came up this morning. Sort of like wondering if everyone has paid their dues (so far: Amber, Demurris, Garland, Greg, and Shane, so counting yours truly … we are halfway there!)
Hopefully no one needs this reminder, but the NFL season kicks off on THURSDAY night, so if you have any Buffalo Bills or Los Angeles Rams you wish to adorn your SPFL lineup, make sure they’re designated as a starter before then.
I wondered if I should try to write anything witty or interesting for this preseason post, but finally settled on something that may prove to be witty in a few months — Ye Old Commish’s very own NFL predictions.
In the AFC, I see the playoff seeds as:
- Buffalo Bills
- Los Angeles Chargers
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Indianapolis Colts
- Baltimore Ravens
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Miami Dolphins
I think the Titans and Raiders will be knocking on the door of the playoffs, but fall a little short. In the first round, the Chargers will take down the Dolphins, the Chiefs will “upset” the Bengals, and the Ravens will “upset” the Colts. In the Divisional Round, the Bills will get sweet revenge at home against the Chiefs and the Chargers will take down Baltimore. In the AFC Championship Game, the Bills will win a shootout over the Chargers.
In the NFC, I see the playoff seeds as:
- Los Angeles Rams
- Minnesota Vikings
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- San Francisco 49ers
- Green Bay Packers
- New Orleans Saints
The Cardinals and Lions will be the other contenders for the postseason from the NFC. In Round One, the Vikings will ease by the Saints, the Eagles will take down Mr. Rodgers, and the 49ers will end America’s Long Nightmare known as the Tom Brady Era.

In Round Two, the Rams will take care of business against the 49ers and the Vikings will win a squeaker over Philly. In the Championship Game, the Rams will win handily against Minnesota, to set up a Super Bowl matchup of … our Thursday night season opener, funny how things like that work out, isn’t it ??!! And in the end, I see the Bills taking their first ever Lombardi Trophy back home to Buffalo. In reality, I think the Rams as the NFC’s best team might only be the 5th or 6th best team in the American Football Conference.
And where might be the Cowboys, you ask? I see a stout Cowboys defense this year and a very poor Dallas offense leading to a lost season, a Top 10 draft pick, and a new head coach next year named Sean Payton.
But in the end, it doesn’t matter, does it? All that matters is what happens in the SPFL and the countdown to kickoff is on … saw this Tweet on Matthew Berry’s newsletter today and thought it hit a little close to home:
“Oh, your boyfriend’s a doctor? Well, mine is the coach of an imaginary football team for the next four months.” Twitter, femaleredhead
Good luck everyone and have fun!
