Waving a White Flag?

Posted on November 9, 2023November 9, 2023 by Commish

There have been some pretty dominating teams in the vaunted history of the SPFL, but I’m not sure we’ve ever had the level of superiority that the Piranha Brothers are demonstrating in 2023. Not only are they 9-0, they’re AVERAGING 166 points per game. I thought maybe CMac’s bye week might be a chink in the armor, but, nah, they still rung up 144 points. It’s echoing of that 2007 New England Patriots outfit that ripped through the league at 16-0, ripped through the AFC playoffs, rising to 18-0, and then … ran into goofy Eli Manning and the New York Football Giants. Can anyone be that goofy Eli Manning in the SPFL this year?

The Piranha Brothers have pretty much wrapped up that Tommy Boy title, with a four game lead over the Corn of Yesterday with only five game remaining. And, things are not much closer in the Matt Foley Division, with the 8-1 Bright 1s holding a three game lead with five to play. Oh, but those second place wild cards and total points wild cards are shaping up to be a real shootout to wrap up our season.

Should the season end today, it would, of course, be the Brothers and the 1s enjoying a week off with a bye while the Corn and Beauty and the Beasts would have second place wild cards sewn up. The total points qualifiers would be the Heroes and the Moops right now, but the Turtles are only TWO points out. And they are technically tied for second at 5-4 with the Corn right now. The Lightning are only a game out of second at 4-5 and the resurgent Turtles are showing some signs of life at 3-6. Meanwhile, the No Names at 3-6, are only two games out of second place while the suddenly dangerous Ghost of Megatron are racking up some points and trying to climb that standings list with two straight Ws. The Midgets at 2-7 are just hoping Carson Wentz can revive the Rams season. LOL.

Beauty 142 – Moops 84: Beauty and her beasts humiliated the old grayback led by Jalen Hurts 26 and Cole Kmet 23 while the battered and bruised Moops had AJ Brown (19) and very little else. Let’s chalk it up to byemaggedon. Or something.

Or the Moops in prime time…

Monkeys 132 — Midgets 116: The Monkeys claimed a big victory, led, once again by Rachaad White (29) and Derek Carr (17). The Midgets had the Cincinnati connection lead their scoring with Joe Mixon and Tee Higgins both tallying 19 each.

Megatron 144 – Corn 95: Megatron is starting to flex, led by, (well, I didn’t realize they had one?) the Chargers D (38) and CeeDee Lamb (29). The Corn had only enough kernels to flush the Moops this week, led by Sam Howell (19) and Gus Edwards (17).

Bright 1s 130 – Lightning 106: The Bright 1s continued their winning ways behind the Ravens D (29) and Dalton Schultz (28). (The NFL’s four leading receivers last weekend all had Dallas Cowboy backgrounds — Lamb, Noah Brown, Amari Cooper, and Dalton Schultz. Unfortunately for me, only one of them still wear the star. Sigh). The Lightning was led by, once again, that Chiefs D (22) and trade acquisition Patrick Mahomes (17). Now, it must be pointed out, even though, all of us would have done the same, if future Rookie of the Year, CJ Stroud (43 points) had been in the Lightning lineup, this outcome and maybe the whole season might have been different. Just sayin’.

Turtles 162 – Heroes 146: The heavyweight title fight of the week went Tennessee’s way, thanks to that Raiders D (33) and Rhamondre Stevenson (25) finally finding his sea legs. The Heroes fell short but gained some precious points thanks to Tank Dell (34) and Josh Allen (26).

Brothers 141 — Names 108: The Brothers had a pedestrian week by their 2023 standards, led by the Browns D (41) and Diontae Johnson (22) — come on, is this a season of destiny or what??? The No Names were led by Josh Jacobs (24) and fill in QB Baker Mayfield (19) as they await their trade acquisition QB with the golden locks to take the field this week.

I freakin’ love this guy…

Next Week

  • Moops @ Megatron
  • Midgets @ Brothers (a Thanksgiving miracle??? BHAHAHAHAH)
  • Beauty @ Lightning
  • Heroes @ Corn
  • Names @ Turtles
  • Bright 1s @ Monkeys

Remember, our league trade deadline is next Saturday, November 18th.

Remember, two of you still owe league dues. There could be a big storm coming that will clog up the sewers…
