Week 8.25

Posted on October 30, 2025 by Commish

We’re back baby! The Moops took advantage of the NFL’s Bye-Mageddon to finally get off the schneid and pick up their first win. Buckle up, the sky’s the limit now…

And if that’s not enough for Ye Old Commish, my beloved Blue Jays have done themselves proud so far in the Fall Classic. I’m not taking anything for granted yet because Yamamoto pitched a gem in Game 2, so I fully expect this to go seven games, but man, have I enjoyed it. Just a few quick reflections:

Granted, I’m not an annual baseball fan and don’t watch unless I have a rooting interest, but John Smoltz seems like a great analyst on Fox. I feel like I’ve learned much of what I’ve missed in the game over the last ten years, just by listening to him. And seems to know what pitch is coming or shouldn’t be thrown every time.

Yes, I watched every inning of the 18 inning marathon in Game 3. And I didn’t even get sleepy, somehow. And this old boomer is usually in bed by 10:30. I must confess that I thought that gut wrenching loss would be the death knell for the undermanned Jays. But instead, they seemed to shrug it off and keep plugging along.

Davis Schneider sending one out of the park on the first pitch last night was AMAZING. I jumped out of my recliner like Donkey in Shrek, shouting “I believe, I believe, I believe…! I read today that Schneider’s nickname is the Human Raccoon in the locker room because of all the trash he eats. He often pre-games with “yucky soup”, which is, get this: Reese’s Pieces, blackberries, protein powder, and chocolate milk. Gross? Yum?

Shohei Ohtani? Truly unbelievable. And, I have to admit, he seems supremely likable. Wish he’d have taken the Blue Jays up on their offer… but not if it would have cost us Vladdy.

I thought NFL sideline reporters were mostly useless and intrusive with their pregame/halftime coach talks, but those in-game interviews of baseball managers are AWFUL! Leave them alone, for heaven’s sakes.

The SPFL seems to be tightening up a little bit after Bye-Mageddon Week. Higgins and the Ladds (6-2) took over first place in the TB Division thanks to their takedown of the Bright 1s (6-2), while the Mighty Moops upset of the Corn (6-2) dropped them into a first place tie with the Thunder Monkeys (6-2) over in the MF Division. If the playoffs started today, the Corn would be overall #1 with Higgins at #2. The second place wild cards would go to the Bright 1s and the Monkeys, while the total points scored wild cards would be Heath’s Heroes (5-3) and the Piranha Brothers (4-4). And don’t look now, but the next team up and only 36 points back of the Brothers as of now is … Beauty and the Beasts, or as better known now, the Moops 2.0. LOL!

Moops 119 – Corn 102: RJ Harvey (29) and Indiana Jones (23) enabled the Moops 1.0 to overcome the big fat zero that Quentin Johnston put up and take down the bye-ridden Corn (Kyren Williams and Sam LaPorta both on vacation), which were led by Josh Allen (25) and JaMarr Chase (21).

Higgins 147 – Bright 1s 105: Higgins and the Ladds didn’t let the MINUS SIX POINTS posted by the Commies’ D bother them, led by someone named Chimere Dike (34) and Drake Maye (27) while the 1s relied on Devon Achane (21) and the Eagles D (15). JSN’s bye week and Jayden Daniels’ continued injuries hobbled their efforts.

Moops 2.0 143 — Lightning 109: The Moops 2.0, er, the Beasts were led by Saquon (36) and the Buffalo D (26), while the Lightning were led by Bo Nix (24) and King Henry (21).

Monkeys 172 — Midgets 132: Looking mighty, mighty dangerous are the Monkeys, who led the league in scoring this week, thanks to Jonathan Taylor (40) and the Old Man Down the Road (Joe Flacco) with 26. The Midgets put up some healthy points of their own in the losing effort, led by Jalen Hurts (27) and Rashee Rice (25).

Turtles 128 — Megatron 118: The Turtles were able to take in-home bragging rights, thanks to Justin Herbert (26) and the Patriots D (22). Megatron almost pulled off the upset despite having the Sun God and Travis Hunter on bye weeks, along with the still injured Lamar, and was led by the Tampa Bay D (38) and Mr. Taylor Swift (21).

Heroes 161 — Brothers 117: Also looking rather dangerous was Heath’s Heroes behind James Cook’s 37 and Breece Hall’s 34. The Brothers were scrappy, putting up 33 points from Tucker Kraft and 18 from … Tyjae Spears.

One piece of sad and personal business within the SPFL family — sincere condolences to Garland, Thunder Monkeys Owner, on the loss of his mother this week. A wonderful obituary shared was a testament to a truly impactful life. Losing a parent, especially when it is a last surviving one, is a real crucible moment in life and my heartfelt thoughts, prayers and empathy go out to Garland and the rest of the family.
