Week Four Recap

Posted on October 5, 2023October 5, 2023 by Commish

Much like the NFL, things are starting to take on a little shape in the SPFL as well. But remember, as a wise man named Blutarsky once told us, “was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell, no!” And no one is out of it just yet in the SPFL either! Keep pounding the rock!

In the Tommy Boy Division, the Piranha Brothers still reign supreme at 4-0, but the Mighty Moops and Greased Lightning are lurking at 3-1. Yesterday’s Corn is another game back at 2-2, while the Turf Turtles (1-3) and Thunder Monkeys (0-4) have some work to do.

In the Matt Foley Division, the Bright 1s stand alone at 4-0 after Beauty and Her Beasts took their first ever loss and dropped to 3-1. The Bitter Midgets are at .500 while Heath’s Heroes and the No Names are at 1-3. The Ghost of Megatron is haunted by his 0-4 mark.

While we still have ten games to go, IF the playoffs started today, it would be the Brothers, the Bright 1s, the Moops, Beauty, the Midgets and the Lightning … but the Corn and the Heroes are both less than ten total points out of that wild card slot. And still yet, second place is only a couple of games or so out of reach from everyone … so keep clocking in, you never know when you might break through.

Moops 213 — Midgets 121: The Mayberry Bunch took the Commissioner’s advice and piled up some excess points this week, picking up an easy win, thanks to AJ Brown (40) and that swarming Cowboys Defense (39). The Midgets were led by Justin Jefferson (26) and the Buffalo D (17).

Turtles 132 — Beauty 112: Our defending champ picked up her first win of the season and gave our rookie her first L of the season in one quick swoop. Kyren Williams (30) and Derrick Henry (26) led the Turf Turtles while Jalen Hurts (27) and Brandon Aiyuk (20) were leading Beasts. It’s not something anyone would have done, but I like to point interesting lineup quirks out when I see them and a start of one Cole Kmet over George Kittle at TE would have changed this outcome.

It’s gotta be demoralizing to get a penalty and watching slinky dog back that ass up to rub it in

Brothers 141 — Megatron 109: The Piranha Brothers continued their havoc wreaking led by CMac (50) and DJ Moore (27). Megatron seems to be snakebit this season, beset by an early injury to Javonte Williams and a really weird situation with their TE Juwan Johnson being declared out after the game started. Nevertheless, Stefon Diggs (38) and Russell Wilson (22) had nice games for the Ghost.

Lightning 120 – Names 103: The Greasy Ones almost took too much foot off the gas, but eased to a W thanks to that controversial keeper Mark Andrews (25) and Trevor Lawrence (17). The No Names showed some fight with Josh Jacobs (29) and Patrick Mahomes (15).

Taylor Swift fans who don’t care about football currently think Zach Wilson is better than Patrick Mahomes.

Heroes 139 – Monkeys 78: The Heroes picked up their first win easily, led by the Seattle D (42) and Josh Allen (38) which would have been enough to defeat the Monkeys on this week. The Monkeys lineup was not hindered by absentee management or anything just one of those weird weeks of steaming mediocrity that hits us all along the way. Dak Prescott and JaMarr Chase led the way with 14 points each.

Bright 1s 151 — Corn 147: The Bright 1s kept their spotless record intact in the game of the week, thanks to the Baltimore D (30) and Devon Achane (27). The Corn took the L, but continues to pile up those critical points, led by Nico Collins (37) and Justin Fields (30) this time around.

Next Week

  • Moops @ 1s
  • Midgets @ Lightning
  • Beauty @ Corn
  • Megatron @ Turtles
  • Heroes @ Brothers
  • Names @ Monkeys

I will try to make next week a little more interesting. I’m just really battling to get back on an even keel after my short term absence at work. The one thing that tells me is that I’m ready for retirement and full time “commissioner-ing”.

A couple of housekeeping notes — the Bright 1s are in the market for a TE, if anyone wants to tread in the trading block waters. I tried but was shot down… AND, I still have two outstanding league dues hanging out there. Check your records and see if your guilty before I get cranky and start calling names.

Best of luck, enjoy the games and that cool weather coming this weekend!
