SPFL Constitution 2026

Sociable Pine Football League

Constitution and Bylaws

League Overview

Name: Sociable Pine Football League

Format: Keeper League

Platform: Yahoo since 2021 (prior: My Fantasy League)

Number of Teams: 12

Commissioner: Travis Perry

League Calendar

Draft: The Sunday which is a full week and one day before Labor Day, 2pm

Keeper Declaration Deadline: Friday before Draft Day (must let Commissioner know also)

Trade Deadline: The Thursday after the 10th week of the regular season

Waivers: Wednesday and Saturday nights throughout the season

Playoff Start: Week 15 of NFL season

League Structure and Settings

Roster Size: 16 players, no Injured Reserve. If you want to keep an injured player, you must devote a bench spot to roster them.

Limitations: Limited to two QBs and two TEs per team, otherwise no restrictions

Lineup: 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 2 Flex (RB/WR/TE), and 1 Team Defense (no Kickers). Players become “locked” after their NFL game kicks off, meaning they cannot be moved into or out of your lineup after that time.

Structure: Two divisions, six teams per division, assigned based on odd/even draft position

Schedule: Randomly set by Yahoo, division mates play 2x/season

Scoring: Point Per Reception league (see Appendix for detailed scoring), decimal and negative scoring allowed. Game tiebreakers are total bench scoring, but ties are virtually unheard of with our decimal scoring system.

Standings: Head-to-head tiebreaker. If that can’t break the tie (ex, season split or three way tie), total points scored.

Playoffs: Six teams, weeks 15-17

Toilet Bowl: Bottom six teams participate in playoff tournament in same weeks

Financials

Entry Fee: $100 per team

Payment Deadline: Conclusion of Week Four

Payment Method: Cash, Check, Venmo, Zelle, Paypal

Prizes:

  • $100 to team with most points in regular season
  • $100 to Toilet Bowl Tournament champion
  • $250 to SPFL Super Bowl Runner Up
  • $750 to SPFL Super Bowl Champion

Kangaroo court fines are possible, based upon ignorance or insolence.

Governance

Commissioner has veto power over trades (and most anything else TBH, but I can’t recall it ever being needed outside of expelling an owner or two over the years). Commissioner’s goal is to be fair, make sure owners enjoy themselves, and want to play again next year.

Owner Expectations

  1. Have fun
  2. Check our blog site (www.commissionerperry.com) for some fun writeups, typically every Thursday afternoon or so
  3. Update your lineup
  4. Participate in the waiver wire to keep us all honest. It’s not hard and actually is a little fun.
  5. Use GroupMe message group as the league “clubhouse” for trash talk, trading block rumors and general friendly conversation
  6. Owners are asked to notify commissioner well in advance of season if he/she wishes to step away from the SPFL

Draft Rules

Type: 16-round snake draft in Yahoo Live Draft room

Draft Order: Randomly set online at least a few days prior to the draft using the 100yardrush.com website

Keepers:

  • Commissioner will send out an eligible keepers list for all teams (and their cost) in the weeks preceding the draft. Keep an eye on the blog site for this reveal.
  • The “cost” to keep a player is that player’s draft position the previous year MINUS one round. (For example, if you keep your 4th round draft pick from last year, it will cost you a 3rd round pick this year).
  • Each team may keep a maximum of two players per year.
  • Player must have been drafted (no free agents eligible as keepers).
  • First round draft picks are not eligible to be kept.
  • Player may be kept a maximum of two consecutive years (3 years total player control by any one team).
  • While you can select your keepers on your team page, PLEASE let the Commissioner know if you have done so because he must manually enter the draft cost prior to the draft. It is fine to simply let the Commissioner know the player(s) you want to keep.

Trade Rules: Draft picks may not be traded

Timer: 90 seconds per pick, timed via Yahool Live Draft Room

Missed Pick: Yahoo will auto draft for you, based on their own rankings.

Etiquette: Make sure you know how to access the Live Draft Room PRIOR TO DRAFT DAY. If you’re not going to be able to attend the draft, please set your team to autopick and/or assign your draft preferences PRIOR TO DRAFT DAY.

Waivers/Free Agency

Waiver Type: FAAB (Free Agent Acquisition Budget), $1000 per team, per season

Processing Days: Wednesday and Saturday nights

Limits: Teams are limited to 50 transactions per season.

Free Agents: Once a player is dropped, he must remain on waivers for a set number of days before he can be claimed. That number of days is indicated on Yahoo Free Agents list.

Special League Rule: Each team is eligible for one freebie transaction between the draft and the first game of the NFL season. This is to allow owners to recover from bone headed draft day mistakes or a catastrophic late preseason injury to a key player. Please alert commissioner if you wish to use this resource.

Trades

Deadline: Thursday after the 10th week of the regular season

Process: Players may be placed on the “trading block” on Yahoo, discussed via GroupMe, individuals’ texts, etc., but once a trade is agreed upon, it must be formally entered by one of the the owners on the league website (Yahoo). The trade then transitions to the commissioner review stage …

Trade Review Process: Commissioner reviews and approves each trade. He will do this as quickly as possible, but if it seems to be lingering, feel free to contact the commissioner. In the event of an obvious audacious collusion attempt, Commissioner can veto a trade and/or ask for a league vote via the GroupMe message group. (FWIW, I can’t recall a trade veto ever happening.)

Draft Pick Trades: Not allowed

Playoffs

Playoff Weeks: NFL Weeks 15-17

Number of SPFL Championship Playoff Teams: Six — two division winners, two division runners-up, and top two overall scoring teams in the regular season (regardless of record).

Number of Toilet Bowl Tournament Teams: Six – all the “losers”.

Bye Week Policy: Two division winners are awarded bye in Week One of the Playoffs. Top two “losers” are awarded bye in Toilet Bowl Tournament Week One.

Tiebreakers: Higher seeded team wins. Teams are “re-seeded” each week of the playoffs, based on initial seeding.

Roster Lock: Once your team is eliminated in either playoffs or Toilet Bowl, your roster is locked from making transactions.

Rule Amendments

Commissioner welcomes input for improvements to be implemented in the following season at any time. Only in extremely extenuating circumstances would any changes be administered during a season.

Contingency Planning

In the event of a localized/widespread Internet outage, please try to communicate any lineup changes to the Commissioner prior to the NFL kickoffs.

Ghost Teams/Abandoned Teams

In the event of a ghosted/abandoned team after/before a season, the Commissioner will solicit owner invite ideas from the rest of the league. Should an owner not be found prior to the start of the season (or a team is abandoned during the season, as happened during the 2025 season), the league will take ownership of the team.

Should this happen, the team will be set to autodraft for the Live Draft. The commissioner will be responsible for roster management but will follow these guidelines:

  • Weekly lineup based on the Yahoo highest projected lineup.
  • The ghost team will not be eligible for trading.
  • Any waiver wire moves will only be made in the event of an obvious roster/lineup need due to injury, bye weeks, suspensions or otherwise vacant position.
  • Bids will be $1 for defenses and $10 for skill positions. If the roster need is not met via the waiver wire, a $0 bid will be input for another player.
  • Finally, the team will not be eligible for any prizes. Additional $100 will be given to the SPFL Super Bowl Champion (unless it is the Commissioner, then it will go to the Runner Up).

If a new owner is found to be willing to assume team ownership at any time during the season, he/she may do so without any of these restrictions.
