Sunk cost fallacy: I learned this in my freshman economics class under Doc Greear. “The irrational tendency to continue investing in something simply because you’ve already invested too much to walk away.” SPFL Owners might call it Jaylen Waddle. Or Ladd McConkey. Or Omarion Hampton. Or AJ Brown. I also call it The Dallas Cowboys.
Geez louise. You know the popular memes on the Internet claim that Dallas Cowboys fans go into each year saying, “This is our year.” I’m pretty deep in the Cowboy Fan culture and I haven’t met a Cowboys fan in probably 20 years who said that. It’s really kinda sad. Jordan Love had 109 yards passing Sunday night. On the first drive of the game! A football field I believe is 100 yards long. Trust me, I’m fully prepared to lose on Monday night to the dumpster fire Eagles under the direction of a QB named Tanner McKee. That is my existence.
The sunk cost fallacy could also be tied to some of the records on the Fantasy Hall of Fame site I shared in our group text last week. For example, they provide the Biggest Draft Busts in SPFL History. LeVeon Bell is #1, #2, and #4 on that list, in 2015, 2016, and 2018, drafted by Greg, Shane, and yours truly. Wonder how many weeks we all started him those years?
If you’re into the SPFL lore at all, it’s worth signing up and spending some time exploring. It’s free, I’ve paid all the fees. You can find the owner who has made the most trades in history — 35, to be exact. You can also find the owner who has had the fewest trades — two owners have made only two trades in 17 years. And it’s not who you might think. Greatest Waiver Pickup in SPFL History? James Conner, Week 1 of 2018 season, by Shane, scored 348 points. Most wins in a single season? Greg in 2023, with 13 wins! Most losses in a single season? Tim, also in 2023, with 12! Really kind of fun. Be sure to check out the banners room, cough cough. Of course, the Moops banner is very, very dusty.

Sorry big brother
Alright, to the present day. If the playoffs started today, the Oysters and the Brothers would be bye week wonders at 1 & 2. The Heroes and the 1s would be seeded 3 & 4. But the two wild cards at 5 & 6? The .500 Corn and the 1-5 Turtles! That is pretty dang cool. According to the Yahoo Power Ranking, the Turtles are ranked #2 overall. Crazy.

Corn 139.9 – Heroes 139.8: Record scratch. Okay, did y’all see this? I’ve not had to use decimal points in a while in a recap, but the Corn picked up a victory by less than 0.2 points last weekend! Thanks to CMac’s 33 points on MNF, it was just enough to clip his older brother, who was led by D’Andre Swift (24) and Kirk Cousins (23). What a game!! If I’d been the Corn, I’d have been on the edge of my recliner begging for that one more catch. The definition of Fantasy Football Fun.
This is a pet peeve of mine. At least find a way to get off the hail mary. It’s the most exciting 3 seconds in football.
Ladds 130 – Monkeys 117: The Ladds are back in the game, thanks to some midseason horse trading. Acquisition Malik Nabers (28) led the way and the clueless but talented Jayden Daniels added 23. The Monkeys are patiently awaiting their acquisition, Saquon Barkley, feasting on the Dallas defense Monday night. Last week, they had Tyler Shough (30) and the Chiefs D (27).
Brothers 105 — 1’s 86: Okay, this was a big game … but it kinda stunk. The Brothers escaped with a win thanks to KW3’s return (29) and Jonathan Taylor (24). The 1s were in trouble with Jahmyr Gibbs bye week and Cam Skattebo’s visit to the Harbaugh Fumble Doghouse (0). Isiah Likely (26) was the best performer for the Bright 1s, but waiver wire pickup Josh Jacobs ($100!!!!!!!) awaits this week.

Moops 127 – Midgets 92: The Moops staggered to a victory behind Captain Cook III (26) and the Browns D (18), while the Midgets were undone by two zeroes in the lineup, one self inflicted and one just a crap performance. Tyrone Tracy (23) and Jordan Love (22) led the littles’ scoring column.
Oysters 159 – Turtles 129: The Oysters kept up their torrid pace, leaving the rest of the league wondering if there’s even any hope. Overcoming an 8 point performance by Bijan Robinson, the Oysters still had an outstanding lineup, led by twin 25 point performances from Bhayshul Tuten and Kyle Pitts. Matthew Golden (22) and the Steelers D (20) helped the Turtles continue to stash those ever important points.

Hilarious but insensitive comments on this one: (“Next year’s international game is in Warsaw” … “I give it a nein out of ten.” … “Can’t question their ability to blitz”)
Lightning 145 – Megatron 103: Alright, I admit it. The Lightning have overcome the early season picking and have found their mojo. Bruce Young (22) and DK Metcalf (20) led a full double figure lineup to cruise to victory over the Ghost. It’s not a good sign when your leading scorer is a gray haired 40-something QB (19) and a defense (Ravens 18).
